Gabrielle Union Speaks Out About Nude Photo Hacking

Gabrielle Union, one of the many victims in the now infamous nude photo hacking, who spoke about her experience after the images were leaked for Cosmopolitan’s December issue, has also addressed the topic during the recent Fun Fearless Life conference in New York.

Although Gabrielle’s naked images weren’t posted during the first round of leaks with other female celebs like Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton, the news was still devastating. Especially as it came just after her marriage to Miami Heat basketball player Dwyane Wade, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

But when the actual leak happened, she says she felt “paralysed” and as if something had been taken from her. Luckily, she has a wonderful support system and says that everyone she thought would react negatively to the news actually recognised the issue as a crime and have been wonderful to her.

Gabrielle also says that people calling it a ‘scandal’ are lessening the issue. It was a crime, not a scandal. Stealing photos (especially when they’re of naked women who did not consent to them being shared) to spread across the internet for profit or even just because you think you deserve to see a certain celebrity naked is wrong. And shameful.

Hopefully the person or persons responsible will be found and held liable for these crimes, but, for now, we should recognise that we do not have the right to any of these women or their bodies just because they’re famous.
