Lens For Your Smartphone Will Tell You If Your Prada Is Fake

It is safe to say that a classic, well-made, designer bag is on the wish list of many a woman – and even some men, too. However, not everyone has R30 000 lying around to quickly drop on a designer bag.
But when the day finally rolls around – after saving for what seems like years – that you can actually afford a genuine Prada bag, you would of course want to make sure it’s the real deal; and of course be able to prove to people it’s not a knockoff.
Well, a Japanese company has developed a special camera lens for your smartphone that will tell you whether your Prada is Prada – or nada.
NEC is a Japanese technology company that is apparently very concerned with buying authentic products and helping people get what they pay for. They have developed the camera lens along with technology that they are appropriately calling ‘object fingerprint authentication’.
Just as you would use your own fingerprint to authenticate yourself to your smartphone through fingerprint authorization, this tech will verify whether your designer goods are authentic using the same principle.
This is possible because of the intricate detailing on real designer bags and goods. Most high-end designer bags have unique patterns, zippers and fasteners. These act as the product’s fingerprint, as more often than not these patterns and zippers differ on the knockoff’s – even if it’s a really close copy.
By using your camera with special lens and smartphone, you will be able to verify your expensive product.
All you need to do is simply snap a picture of the bag or item and within a matter of seconds, it will tell you whether or not you have an authentic designer product in your hands or if it is a knockoff.

Once you have attached the lens to your smartphone’s camera, it works in conjunction with its built-in camera technology to give you intensely detailed pictures of the product – giving you a closer look to the surface patterns and finer details.
As we know, this is the key to telling whether or not your product is authentic.
Once you take the picture, it then compares it with a database of so-called ‘product fingerprints’.
However, this technology doesn’t merely stop at designer handbags. You can also check the authenticity of other products such as ‘sewing machines and even something as specific as the bolts used to assemble products’.
The product is still being finalized but NEC hopes to launch the product in April of next year.
